May 5, 2024 - Jesus Prays in the Church

Series: Gospel of John

Summary

Main Idea: Jesus prays for the Union and Reunion of His Church.

1. The Union of the Church (v. 20-23) The Church exists for the Glory of God. Unity in the church reflects the truth of who God is and brings glory to HIM. We are all united to God and one another through our faith in Jesus Christ. This results from being in a right relationship with God through Christ. We must fully pursue Jesus Christ and grow in Christ. How do we do this? a. A United commitment to His Word. Know and Grow in the Word, it must be central in the life of the church. We must uphold the TRUTH of HIS WORD. b. Having a united commitment to His MISSION. Jesus came to reveal the glory of God so sinners could be saved through Him. We are to GO and MAKE DISCIPILES. c. Having a United commitment to His Sacrificial Love. He wants us to know the Love of God in a personal way so we can show the Love of God to others. We should sacrificially love others, by submitting to each other for the good of each other.

2. The Reunion of the Church (v. 24-26) This is a complete and perfect unity, much like a family reunion. A coming together of believers. It is God's will that we be with Him in Heaven. It is a certainty that God's people with be with Him in Heaven. We will get to heaven through His Glory and Grace, not for anything we have done through our works. When we go to Heaven, we will see Him in His glory, and we will be transformed and will be like Him fully in his presence and His image. We will see and share in the full glory of God.

What does this mean? a. We will share in the eternal relationship in an unimaginable way, experiencing the full love of God when we see and are made like him. b. We will reflect the full glory of God in a way we cannot imagine. We will worship Him perfectly. It will be far greater than we experience now. c. We will receive and enjoy the full blessings and inheritance that is promised in Jesus Christ.

May this encourage us to live like Jesus NOW.
